Speaking on Monday on a flying visit to London, Ballmer addressed a whole series of Microsoft software issues, including a veiled hint that the channel strategies of Great Plains and Navision would be altered over the course of time to bring them in line with other Microsoft products and that the company's CRM ambitions are not limited to the desktop as its rivals insist. But despite growing speculation that the company will mount a takeover bid for a major services company - with Accenture most firmly in the frame - Ballmer chose to insist that Microsoft was not interested in trying "to be IBM" and maintain a large services organisation. The strategies that had been in place 20 years ago at Microsoft still looked pretty good to him, he said.
