Microsoft EU ruling in first part of 2003

European Competition Commissioner Mario Monti said a long running anti-trust investigation into Microsoft was now well advanced and a ruling would be made in the "first part of this year." Monti, speaking to reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said all options remained open but that any ruling needed to give consideration to developments in U.S. cases against Microsoft and benefit consumers. Monti would not be drawn further on the exact timing of a ruling.
