Judge urged to accept Microsoft deal

Justice Department told a federal judge on Thursday that its antitrust settlement with Microsoft will stop the company's monopolistic practices and asked her to endorse it without too much tampering. In documents filed with U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, the department's attorneys said the settlement "will eliminate Microsoft's illegal practices, prevent recurrence of the same or similar practices, and restore the competitive threat that (other software) products posed prior to Microsoft's unlawful undertakings." The document, known as a "competitive impact statement" outlines the Justice Department's rationale for settling its three-year antitrust case against Microsoft.
