Microsoft Corp. fresh from settling the U.S. government's antitrust case, said on Tuesday it is interested in settling European Commission allegations the company violated antitrust laws in Europe. The U.S.-based company also said it would forgo a December hearing with European regulators on charges it abused the dominant power it holds through its Windows computer operating systems.

"(Microsoft) would welcome an opportunity to meet (with the Commission) to discuss whether there is an amicable way to resolve this," Paris-based Microsoft Associate General Counsel John Frank said in a telephone interview.
